The National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Sanitation (MoHS), has officially commenced it’s Q4 Free Health Care Distribution activities across the country for 5 beneficiary groups of Sierra Leoneans. ( Pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under 5 yrs, Ebola survivors & Disabled)
NMSA is charged with the exclusive responsibility via an Act of Parliament to procure, warehouse & distribute drugs and medical supplies for and unbehalf of the government of Sierra Leone. The quarter 4 (Q4) Distribution exercise commenced on Wednesday,28th October. 2020 at the PCM & OLA During Hospitals in Freetown. The distribution for the districts also started in Port Loko District on Thursday 12th November, 2020. The event in Port Loko was graced by various stakeholders and government officials including senior officials from NMSA, DMO, DHMT staff, Chairman parliamentary oversight committee on health, paramount chiefs, councillors, civil society organizations, beneficiaries and senior Port Loko District Council officials. A total of 7 trucks fully loaded with Free Health Care Drugs & medical supplies, but also other essential drugs and medical supplies such as Nutrition commodities, Malaria, TB, HIV, COVID-19 drugs and IPC materials were handed over to the DHMT in Port Loko after a brief formal ceremony at the Port Loko District Council Hall. The Chairman for the handing over ceremony -Dr. Philip Kargbo, admonished the DHMT on the rational use of the drugs and warned against pilfering and on the other hand admonished the beneficiaries to utilize the drugs for intended purpose. A vote of thanks by one of the beneficiaries climaxed the occasion.
